Upcoming CSU Stanislaus Events

Carol Smeltzer Channing, mezzo-soprano (class of ’10) and Kristina Stamper, soprano (class of ’06), will perform together for the first time in a vocal recital.

California State University, Stanislaus is offering the following upcoming events:

Feb. 20 – Stanford University Professor to Speak on ‘Stalin’s Genocides’
At 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20, the public is invited to attend a lecture by Stanford Professor Norman Naimark who will speak about his most recent publication, “Stalin’s Genocides.”

Having published extensively on Russian and Soviet history, Naimark's lecture will focus on Stalin’s atrocities, examining whether Stalin’s atrocities were really considered “genocide,” a question that has important implications for international law and historical responsibility.

March 1 – CSU Stanislaus Music Alumnae Join Voices to Present Dual Recital
At 7:30 p.m. March 1, Carol Smeltzer Channing, a mezzo-soprano and 2010 CSU Stanislaus graduate will join Kristina Stamper, soprano from the class of 2006, for the first time in a vocal recital at the Snider Recital Hall.

Phil Smallwood, who also attended CSU Stanislaus, will accompany the two vocalists. The program will present a mix of selections from musical theater and other genres, ranging from a set based on food and relationships to songs from the operetta Candide.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, and $8 for students and faculty. The CSU Stanislaus Alumni Association will also host a reception at 6:30pm, which all CSU Stanislaus alumni are invited to attend.

March 2 – Open House for Prospective Counselor Education Students
Prospective students of the Counselor Education (formerly School Counseling), Master of Arts in Education program are invited to attend an information session and meet the program director from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., March 2.

March 7 – CSU Stanislaus School of Nursing Offers Information Session for Prospective Masters Degree Students
Prospective students are invited to attend an information session on the Master of Science in Nursing Programs offered by CSU Stanislaus from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., March 7. The information session will be held at the CSU Stanislaus Stockton Center, Room A-1014, located at 612 E. Magnolia Avenue in Stockton.

A new concentration in Nursing Administration will be discussed at the session, as well as Nursing Education and Gerontological Nursing concentrations. Sessions will cover the graduate program, admission requirements, and the application process.
