Turlock Police Officer Hit by Car While Attempting to Arrest Burglary Suspects on South Berkeley

Friday night, at approximately 6:31pm, the Turlock Police Department responded to the area of S. Berkeley, just south of East Avenue, on the report of a possible burglary in progress. Sergeant Anthony Silva, along with other Turlock Police Department officers, responded to the location. Sergeant Silva arrived to the location first and located two unknown subjects. As Sergeant Silva waited for back up units, he was suddenly struck by an uninvolved vehicle.

According to Turlock Police, as other officers arrived, Emergency Medical Services were immediately summoned to the scene. Sergeant Silva was airlifted to a nearby hospital. He sustained serious non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene after the collision occurred and assisted officers on scene. There is no indication that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Turlock Police Spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis stated that Sergeant Silva is in stable condition and is expected to recover from his injuries.

The Turlock Police press release on the issue stated, “Chief Jackson is optimistic for Sergeant Silva’s recovery and would like to extend his well wishes to him and his family. Please keep Sergeant Silva and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

The status of the burglary suspects was not reported.

Turlock Police continue to investigate the incident.
