This morning at approximately 2:27am, an unidentified woman was hit and killed by a moving vehicle on Golden State Boulevard.

California Highway Patrol was called to the scene, and identified the driver of the vehicle as a Carlos Desousa, age 45, of Delhi, CA. Desousa was driving a 2005 Mazda 3, and was transported to Emanuel Medical Center for minor injuries.

Mr. Desousa was traveling in the southbound lane of Golden State Blvd, south of Griffith Avenue at approximately 55 MPH. The woman walked from the west shoulder in an easterly direction and into the southbound traffic lane directly in front of Desousa’s vehicle. Desousa was reported has applying his vehicle brakes, but was unable to avoid the unidentified woman.

The right front of the vehicle impacted the woman, causing fatal injuries. Desousa was then transported to Emanual Medical Center with minor injuries. The identity of the woman is pending identification by the Merced County Coroner’s office.

Investigation of the incident is still in progress.
