At about 11:40pm Saturday, Turlock Police Officer Rocha was involved in a traffic collision at N. First Street and W. Main Street.

Other officers arrived on scene and found two vehicles involved, Rocha’s and a white 2000 Chevrolet Silverado.

Rocha was the only occupant of his vehicle, while the Silverado was occupied by driver Ryan Crowell, 30, of Valley Springs, and one passenger.

Rocha suffered minor injuries to his right ankle and was transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital, while neither Crowell nor his passenger were injured.

While speaking with Crowell, Officer Ruiz noticed he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, Ruiz determined Crowell was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.

Crowell chose to provide a blood sample for his chemical test required by California’s implied consent law and he was transported to Doctors Medical Center to facilitate that. Crowell was also issued a driver’s license suspension order.

Afterward, Crowell was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury.

Additionally, both vehicles were towed away from the scene. During an inventory search prior to the vehicle being towed officers located three open alcohol bottles.

After the investigation was complete, it was determined Rocha had been driving westbound on W. Main Street, while Crowell had been driving eastbound. As the two vehicles approached N. First Street, Crowell began making a left turn to go northbound, driving directly in Rocha’s path of travel and causing the collision. Rocha’s patrol vehicle came to final rest in the middle of the intersection, while Crowell’s vehicle came to final in the northbound lane just north of the intersection.
