Armed Drunk Driver Arrested During Traffic Stop

At about 9:39pm Wednesday, Turlock Police Officer Nunez made a traffic stop at N. Olive Avenue and North Avenue.

Nunez was in the 800 block of Delbon Avenue when he observed the vehicle driving at a high rate of speed southbound on N. Olive Avenue.

Nunez made contact with and identified the vehicle’s driver as Peter Villadares, 26, of Hilmar.

Villadares displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence, so Nunez removed him from his vehicle.

During a pat-down search of Villadares’ person for weapons, Nunez located a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P 9 Shield handgun.

The gun was discovered to be registered to Villadares, but he didn’t have a concealed carry weapon license.

Villadares participated in standardized field sobriety tests and blew into a preliminary alcohol screening device.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, Nunez determined Villadares was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.

Villadares chose to provide two breath samples for his chemical test required by California’s implied consent law and he was issued a driver’s license suspension order.

Villadares was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, carrying a loaded firearm, and carrying a concealed firearm.
