Drunk Driver Arrested After Being Found Stopped in Intersection

At about 2:19am Saturday, Turlock Police Officer Aziz made a traffic stop at Geer Road and W. Monte Vista Avenue.

The vehicle was stopped in the middle of the intersection.

Aziz made contact with the vehicle’s driver, who was uncompliant and refusing to get out.

Officer Jimenez then arrived on scene and repeated orders were given to get out, but the driver still refused. Eventually, he was forcefully pulled out and detained in handcuffs.

The driver was identified as Keenan Charles, 37, of Manteca.

While speaking with Charles, Aziz noticed he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence, so he asked him if he’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests.

Charles agreed and was taken out of handcuffs to participate in the tests. He participated in one but then started asking repeated questions to avoid taking the other tests when the tow truck arrived.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, Aziz determined Charles was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.

Aziz issued Charles a driver’s license suspension order.

Charles was then booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of resisting a peace officer and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Additionally, Charles’ vehicle was towed.
