At about 10:48pm Friday, Turlock Police Officer De La Cruz attempted to make a traffic stop at N. Tully Road and Fulkerth Road.
The vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed and De La Cruz had to use his lights and sirens to catch up to it.
Eventually, the vehicle pulled into one of the bays at Big Bear Car Wash in the 1000 block of N. Golden State Boulevard and its driver got out and began to walk away.
The driver was detained at gunpoint and identified as Brayan Sandoval, 20, of Patterson.
Sandoval was determined to have a suspended driver’s license.
While speaking with Sandoval, De La Cruz noticed he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence, so he asked him if he’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests.
Sandoval agreed and completed the tests, but performed poorly on them.
Based on the totality of the circumstances, De La Cruz determined Sandoval was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.
Sandoval chose to provide two breath samples at the scene for his chemical test required by California’s implied consent law. He was also issued a driver’s license suspension order and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Sandoval was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.
