Man Damages Stolen Vehicle and Flees Police on Foot

At about 10:56pm Wednesday, Turlock Police responded to a dangerous driver at N. Berkeley Avenue and E. Canal Drive.

The caller reported a gray Dodge Charger with flat tires and its lights off was swerving all over the roadway and doing donuts.

While officers were still enroute, the vehicle reportedly also hit a curb.

Sergeant Parmley arrived in the area and located the vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway at E. Canal Drive and N. Olive Avenue.

As soon as the vehicle’s driver noticed Parmley, he took off running northbound on N. Olive Avenue.

Parmley decided to stay with the vehicle instead of chasing its driver, as there was an unconscious occupant in the passenger seat.

Turlock Fire and American Medical Response arrived on scene a short time later and transported the passenger to a local hospital, with him still unconscious. He had no obvious injuries.

Simultaneously, several other officers and a deputy sheriff established a perimeter in the area, while requesting the sheriff’s airplane. A second deputy with a drone also decided to respond from West Modesto and assist.

Despite efforts, officers couldn’t locate the driver and had to break down the perimeter.

Officers checked the area down some rim marks left in the roadway for any signs of a traffic collision, but were unable to locate one.

Officer Ayala got ahold of the vehicle’s owner on the phone, who stated it had been stolen in unincorporated Modesto. She was told to report the vehicle stolen to the California Highway Patrol and did so.

Ayala then recovered the stolen vehicle, which had body damage and three flat tires, along with marijuana and baseball bats inside it.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is encouraged to call Officer Ayala at 209-668-1200.
