At about 12:24am Thursday morning, Turlock Police Officer Marquez was driving by Envy Fine Clothing in the 0 block of E. Main Street, when he observed a man sweeping leaves in the roadway with what appeared to be a broom.
As Marquez passed the man, he heard a loud bang on the right side of his patrol vehicle and realized that the man had struck it.
Marquez contacted the man who became confrontational, so he ordered him to get on the ground at TASER point.
The man was detained and identified as Jose Rodriguez, 36, of Turlock, who turned out to be on probation for possession of ammunition by a prohibited person and vandalism.
Rodriguez told Marquez that he hadn’t eaten since he got “kicked out.” Marquez attempted to get more information out of Rodriguez, but he refused to talk.
During the incident, Marquez’s patrol vehicle’s taillight filter was damaged. The damage was estimated to be about $500.
Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of vandalism, throwing a substance at a vehicle, and violation of probation.
