At about 9:23pm Thursday night, Turlock Police responded to a possible weapon offense at the Smoke Depot in the 500 block of Lander Avenue, where there were at least two men with guns in front of the business per an anonymous tipster.
Officers arrived on scene and located a total of nine subjects between two vehicles getting ready to leave. They conducted a high-risk stop and detained everyone at gunpoint. While doing so, they were told by who is believed to be the business owner that they were making a video and that the guns were props.
Officers confirmed the guns were props and had their dispatcher run everyone to make sure they were clear. Everyone returned clear except for Carl Warner, 45, of Modesto, who had a $20,000 felony warrant of arrest out of Modesto for two counts of buying or receiving stolen property.
Warner was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant.
The other eight subjects were released and told to call police dispatch before recording any type of video involving prop guns so that police know what’s going on ahead of time and don’t generate the type of response that they did.
