On Sunday, September 18th, 2022, at 3:39 am, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of W Main St and N Orange St, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. The first was a white BMW sedan and the second was a black Toyota sedan. A fire hydrant had also been struck and knocked off its post.

Both vehicles only had single occupants, their drivers. The driver of the white BMW sedan, Daniel Anzures, 23, of Turlock, did not suffer any injuries, while the driver of the black Toyota sedan suffered minor injuries. He refused to be transported to the hospital.

Both vehicles sustained major damage and were deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring them to be towed away. It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.

Anzures had fled the scene on foot prior to crews’ arrival, however, he called police a few minutes later claiming that he wanted to surrender and was near a church in the area. Officers began searching for him and located him in the 300 block of S Laurel St.

Officers noticed that Anzures was exhibiting objective symptoms of being under the influence, so they asked him if he would be willing to participate in a standardized field sobriety test. Anzures agreed and completed the test.

Ultimately, based on the objective symptoms that Anzures was exhibiting, his performance in the standardized field sobriety tests, the fact that he had just been involved in a collision which he had fled from for no other apparent reason, his statements, and the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Anzures was arrested and provided an evidentiary breath sample at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law. The results of the breath sample revealed that Anzures had a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater.

Ultimately, Anzures was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety on charges of hit and run with injuries and driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
