Family displaced after garage fire extends into home early Sunday morning

On Sunday, February 14th, 2021, at approximately 12:10 am, the Turlock Fire Department began receiving multiple calls reporting a working structure fire in the 4600 block of Fosberg Rd. The Turlock Fire Department responded with Battalion 4, Engine 31, Squad 32, Engine 33, and Engine 34. Additionally, the Ceres Fire Department responded with Battalion 3, Engine 15, and Engine 18 as part of a resource sharing agreement.

Engine 33 arrived on scene a few minutes after being dispatched. Upon their arrival, they reported a garage fully involved with the fire spreading to the rest of the residence and threatening the home next door. Captain 33 assumed command and put crews in the offensive strategy.

A large hose line was used to knock down the bulk of the fire in the garage and to prevent further spread while others were used to put out what spread to the rest of the home. Once the fire was put out, crews conducted overhaul and salvaged some personal belongings in the home. Additionally, two of four reported cats were rescued.

American Medical Response responded to provide firefighter care and treat one occupant for minor smoke inhalation. Additionally, the Turlock Police Department responded to provide traffic control and Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric responded to secure utilities. The Turlock Rural Fire Protection District provided city coverage while this incident was on-going.

The occupants of the home, a mother and her 12-year old daughter were displaced and were provided assistance from the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this fire is encouraged to contact Fire Marshal Mark Gomez at 209-669-2119 or by email at MGomez@turlock.ca.us.
