Free Smog Tests at Saturday’s Tune In and Tune Up Event

If your car can’t pass a vehicle emissions test, Valley Clean Air Now might just pay you to make it pass at their upcoming event.

According to a press release from Valley CAN, over 12,000 cars have been repaired to state smog standards by their Tune In & Tune Up program since 2003. The program has also been noted by the release as a one of the most cost-effective methods to reduce vehicle emissions in the state.

Hosted by both San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and Valley CAN, the event will provide Turlock-area drivers with a free emissions test.

According to the press release, “If the vehicle doesn’t pass the test but can be repaired, the driver will receive a voucher for up to $500 in emission-related repairs at a participating STAR-certified smog check station.”

However, before anyone heads out to buy a car, there is some criteria that has to be met. Participants in the event must have owned their car for at least six months, and the vehicle itself must be repairable.

The event will feature hundred of vehicles undergoing emissions and diagnostic tests, booths hosted by local community organizations, and the distribution of vouchers to qualified drivers for up to $500 in free smog repairs.

If the free test isn’t appealing enough, they’ll even feed you. Free food and drinks will be available at 9 a.m. while supplies last.

The event is scheduled for Nov. 14 at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, located 900 North Broadway Avenue. The event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and end at noon, however, the press release has noted that the event is subject to close early due to maximum vehicle capacity. “First come, First serve.”
