A burglar was caught trying to flee by police after they received report of a suspicious subject in the backyard of a Turlock residence Thursday afternoon.
Turlock police received report of the suspicious person after a witness saw the subject get into the backyard of a house in the 600 block of Flower Street at approximately 2:38 p.m.
Officers arrived and found a subject, who matched the description given by the witness, attempting to leave the shed in the backyard, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.
The suspect was found to be in possession of property from the shed and was subsequently taken into custody.
Officers also found that he was in possession of heroin.
Matthew Rigney, 24, was arrested and booked on suspicion of burglary and possession of heroin.
