Turlock police arrested a male suspect Thursday night after he assaulted and robbed a taxi driver he believed was flirting with his girlfriend.
Jon Scott, 18, was arrested and booked for robbery.
A taxi driver came to pick up a girl in the 800 block of Angelus Street who had called for a ride on Thursday night.
Scott believed the driver was flirting with his girlfriend and attacked the driver, punching him several times, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.
The victim was able to get free and run away, but then Scott took several items from the driver’s cab, including a video camera, GPS, and cell phone, said Lewis.
Officers responded shortly after 11 p.m. and contacted the victim who pointed out the female he was supposed to give a ride.
While talking to the female, officers noticed a man poking his head out from over a residential fence, said Lewis. Officers contacted him, later identified as Scott, and determined he was the responsible.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
As of Saturday evening, Scott remained in-custody in the Stanislaus County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
