Turlock police arrested a male suspect on Wednesday afternoon following a foot pursuit that ended with the suspect being located hiding behind a dumpster.

Officers responded to the 500 block of Thor Street around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the report of a possible trespasser in a vacant residence.

When officers arrived, they heard a back window shatter and saw the suspect fleeing on foot, said Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The suspect, later identified as John Paul Gonzalez, 36, was chased for several blocks until officers found him hiding behind a dumpster.

Officers found that Gonzalez was in illegal possession of pepper spray.

Gonzalez was arrested and booked for felon in possession of pepper spray and resisting arrest.
