The San Jose Earthquakes Premier Development League Under-23 Team has abandoned its partnership with the City of Turlock for the greener pastures of Burlingame, located in San Mateo County, and will be re-named the Dragons FC.
City of Turlock Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Director Allison Van Guilder said the partnership was simply that the Earthquakes PDL Team used City of Turlock fields for practice and while it was disappointing to see them leave, she could offer no reason other than that the Earthquakes had not elected to renew their contract.
Despite a rather successful season record of 7-4-3, Turlock crowds averaged less than 400 attendance at home games at California State University, Stanislaus.
The City of Turlock Parks and Recreation Department would actively post game and ticket announcements on social media pages throughout the season, but failed to drum up enough local support to keep the team in Turlock.
The move will not affect local Earthquakes youth soccer programs.
Next season the Dragons FC will play their home games at Burlingame High School.
