The League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County will host an election candidate forum for Turlock City Council and Mayoral candidates in the City Council Chambers at Turlock City Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. where candidates will have the opportunity to answer the tough questions as submitted by City residents.
Forrest White, Bill DeHart, Matthew Jacob, Donald Babadalir, and Sergio Alvarado are set to participate in the first hour of the forum from 6 to 7 p.m. devoted to City Council candidates. Mayoral candidates, Mike Brem and Gary Soiseth are set to participate in the second hour from 7 to 8 p.m.
Each candidate will have two minutes to make an opening statement, followed by a time to answer written questions as submitted by the audience. League members will collect and consolidate questions into similar categories to cover a wide variety of topics and concerns.
The forum moderator will read questions addressed to all candidates and each will have one minute to respond. To close, candidates will have one minute for closing statements. The format of this forum is an opportunity for Council and Mayoral candidates to state their opinions and stances on issues raised by audience members rather than a back-and-forth debate.
The League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County, a segment of the national League of Women Voters, is a nonpartisan political organization. Their mission is to “encourage informed and active participation in government.”
The candidate forum will be held at 6 p.m. in the Yosemite Room of Turlock City Hall at 156 Broadway S. Broadway Ave.
For those not able to attend the forum, it will be televised through the City of Turlock's government access programming on Charter cable channel 2.
