A 15-year-old female was arrested for auto theft after a citizen spotted her driving dangerously on Wednesday afternoon.
The Turlock Police Department received a report of an erratic driver near the intersection of Geer Road and Canal Drive at approximately 4:48 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the Turlock Police Department, the citizens reporting the driver gave the license plate number to the dispatcher. The dispatcher discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Modesto.
The witness followed the driver until officers arrived, according to Turlock police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.
Police officers were able to stop the driver near the intersection of Geer Road and Christoffersen Parkway, said Lewis.
The driver, a 15-year-old female, was arrested for auto theft, but later released with a “promise to appear,” reports the Turlock Police Department.
Although the auto theft is a felony, the suspect was released because the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall only accepts those who commit violent felonies, said Lewis.
