McCorkell is an experienced journalist with a strong dedication to community news.

He began his journalism career in 2005 with the U.S. Navy, graduating from the Department of Defense Information School in Fort Meade, Maryland. He served three additional years as a Navy Journalist Petty Officer 3rd Class at Navy Region Southwest in San Diego.

Following his enlistment he has worked at several newspapers and covered a variety of beats including education, city government, sports, agriculture and human interest.

McCorkell graduated magna cum laude from Fresno Pacific University and holds his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts.

McCorkell and his wife Elizabeth were both raised in the Sacramento area. They have three children: Caitlyn, 8, and twins Grace and Nolan, both 7.

Turlock Poker Room Bandits Sentenced

A little more than three years ago Turlock Poker Room floor supervisor Robert Younan, 49, teamed up with Gabriel Urbieta Rodriguez, 74, and In Cha Say, 61, to steal $24,000 during an elaborate conspiracy at the popular gambling establishment.
A lack of supply and increasing demand for new Turlock homes have combined to drive prices skyward, Realtors say. And the only thing likely to bring prices down is a surge in new home construction.

Walk Your Dog, Get Some Ice Cream

It’s a simple proposition – walk your dog safely on a leash at a park and score some free Cold Stone Creamery ice cream. Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital is sponsoring the dogtastic event, known as the “Scoop’it and Loop’it Ice Cream Social Doggy Walk.” The weekly event kicks off from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crane Park in Turlock.
