Turlock and Stanislaus County voters are receiving sample ballots in the mail for the November 4, 2014 General Election. Included is information relating to candidates running at the Federal, State and local level, two local measures, six California ballot initiatives, as well as information regarding designated polling places and absentee voting.

Specific to Turlock, voters will have the opportunity to choose a new Mayor and two City Councilmembers. Gary Soiseth and Mike Brem are vying for Mayor of Turlock while Matthew Jacob, Sergio Alvarado, and Donald Babadalir are taking on incumbents Forrest White and Bill DeHart for City Council.

Turlock voters will also get the chance to vote on two local measures on the ballot — Measure A, which proposes a change in the method in which City Councilmembers are elected, and Measure B, which proposes a one-half of one-percent increase in local sales tax to be devoted to improving roadways.

At a district level, Turlock voters will choose between incumbent Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) and Michael Eggman (D) for the Congressional District 10; Tom Berryhill (R) and Paulina Miranda (D) for the State Senate District 8; and incumbent Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) and Harinder Grewal (D) for State Assembly District 12.

Voters have the option to select candidates in the Statewide races for:
  • Governor - Edmund G. “Jerry” Brown (D) or Neel Kashkari (R)
  • Lieutenant Governor - Gavin Newsom (D) or Ron Nehring (R)
  • Secretary of State - Pete Peterson (R) or Alex Padilla (D)
  • Attorney General - Ronald Gold (R) or Kamala D. Harris (D)
  • Treasurer - Greg Conlon (R) or John Chiang (D)
  • Insurance Commissioner - Ted Gaines (R) or Dave Jones (D)
  • Controller - Betty T. Yee (D) or Ashley Swearengin (R)
  • State Board of Equalization, District 1 - George Runner (R) or Chris Parker (D)
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction - Marshall Tuck or Tom Torlakson

Additionally, California voters must confirm candidates selected for Associate Justice positions to the California State Supreme Court and California Courts of Appeals.

This year’s California voter initiatives cover an assortment of issues relating to water, budget, health insurance, health care providers, criminal sentencing guidelines as well as tribal gaming compacts.

If you have not received your sample ballot in the mail, you can access the information specific to your address here. To register to vote online, visit the California Secretary of State’s website by Oct. 20.

Individuals who are registered with absentee status should receive their ballots next week.
