Individuals who are not yet registered to vote, and seeking to participate in the Nov. 4, 2014 General Election, have until the Oct. 20 deadline to register.

As of Sept. 5, out of the 326,488 individuals eligible to vote in Stanislaus County, 211,611 people, or 64.83 percent, was registered, according to the Secretary of State.

This election cycle, registered voters in Turlock will decide who represents them in Congressional District 10, State Senate District 8, State Assembly District 12, along with the Turlock Mayor and City Council. Additionally, voters will decide the fate of two local measures, six statewide propositions and a variety of other California state officials.

In California, the deadline to register to vote for any election is 15 days before Election Day, so it is crucial that individuals fill out voter registration applications completely and have them postmarked or hand-delivered to the Stanislaus County Elections Office by the Oct. 20 deadline.

There are certain criteria one must meet if they wish to become a registered voter in California, including, being a United States citizen, California resident, and 18 years of age or older on Election Day.

Individuals must not be in prison, on parole, serving a state prison sentence in county jail, serving a sentence for a felony, or on post release community supervision, and must not be found by a court to be mentally incompetent.

Those seeking to register to vote are asked to provide their driver’s license or California identification card number, the last four digits of their Social Security number, and date of birth.

To register, pick up a paper voter registration application at the Stanislaus County Elections Office, local library, Department of Motor Vehicles office, U.S. Post Office, or apply to register by filling out the online application.

The Elections Office in Stanislaus County is combined with the Clerk-Recorder’s Office, located at 1021 "I" Street, Suite 101, Modesto, located at the corner of 11th and I streets.
