Eggman Challenges Denham to Minimum of 5 Debates TurlockCityNews.com
Congressional candidate Michael Eggman (D) says he hand delivered an invitation to 10th District Congressman Jeff Denham’s (R-Turlock) campaign office, challenging him to engage in no less than five debates between now and the November election - with at least one debate each month.

"Our new vision of increased economic growth and expanded opportunity for the Valley stands in stark contrast with Congressman Denham's shutdown politics," said Eggman. "The voters deserve to hear an open debate about our contrasting visions for the future and I hope that Denham will respect the citizens by choosing to participate in these public forums."

To ensure that the debates happen, Eggman says he would be willing to work around Denham’s schedule.

“In order to ensure local voters have unfiltered access to both candidates and our positions, I propose we schedule a series of no less than five debates – with at least one debate a month from July – October, and at least one debate in both San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties,” Eggman wrote in the letter. “Upon your commitment, our campaigns can work together to organize these formal debates. Because I understand that most of your time is spent in Washington, DC, my campaign is willing to work around your schedule to setup these forums during Congressional breaks or on weekends.”

Later in the invitation Eggman takes a jab at Denham.

“Should the voters elect me, I will be a voice for transparency and accountability in Congress,” Eggman wrote. “I hope that you share my commitment to openness and demonstrate as much to voters by agreeing to monthly debates.”

Eggman is also seeking the support of the public to ensure that the debates happen. Along with the letter he delivered, Eggman set up a petition for supporters to sign urging Denham to participate in the debates.

Request for comment from Denham’s campaign office went unreturned.
