Winter officially begins on Dec. 21, but a coat drive for kids is underway as some children in the Turlock area need a coat or jacket. Community organizations around Turlock are doing their best to help children enjoy their holidays and bear the winter weather. Westside Ministries is holding its annual coat drive, Coats 4 Kids.
For the third time in four months, drivers should be aware that the railroad crossing at Monte Vista Avenue at Golden State Boulevard will be closed for “repairs” again. The "repairs" are actually a reconstruction, now.
The annual Turlock Christmas Parade attracts thousands of residents every year and traverses the Downtown core. Vehicular traffic should be advised of the multiple road closures set up for this event. Every year, the parade begins on Canal Drive by Johnson Road, heads west on Main Street through Downtown Turlock, and then north on Broadway Avenue, eventually concluding at the the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.
The now infamous Monte Vista “Bump” is getting fixed and closing the railroad crossing at Monte Vista Avenue once again. A few months after Union Pacific Railroad replaced railroad tracks and concrete panels at the Monte Vista Avenue railroad crossing in August, a new construction project will close the crossing, again.

A shooting that occurred on North Thor Street is being reported as a suspected burglary in which the homeowner shot and killed the alleged intruder. On Oct. 31, at approximately 1 p.m., Turlock Police officers responded to a shooting on the 300 block of North Thor Street.

Incumbent Councilwoman Amy Bublak secured the endorsement of Turlock Associated Police Officers in the first ever by-district election. With endorsements from Turlock Firefighters PAC and TAPO, Councilwoman Bublak has the endorsement of two major public safety organizations. TAPO posted on Facebook showing their support for Councilwoman Bublak’s reelection in District 4.
Drivers should be advised of an accident, involving a big rig and a car, that is affecting traffic on Lander Avenue. At around 11:15 a.m., the Turlock police and firefighters responded to the scene of an injury-accident on the 1400 block of Lander Avenue.

After a lengthy outage period, Turlock residents are finally seeing their Charter services return. At 5:37 a.m., Charter verified an outage in cable, telephone, and internet services throughout the Central Valley, mostly in Stanislaus County. Charter’s Director of Northwest Communications Bret Picciolo verified outages in the Turlock, Escalon, and Riverbank areas.
Turlock residents and businesses are currently experiencing an outage in their Charter services, including phone, internet, and TV. Charter has been notified of the outage affecting the area and currently have workers seeking to resolve the issue.
