The Turlock City Council will meet Tuesday to place a final vote on changing the speed limit of many streets around Turlock, as well as vote on a series of motions to approve spending measures, many of which are devoted to roads and public safety.

Council will consider amending the City of Turlock Municipal Code to include changes to many speed limits across Turlock.

Streets in question will be either increased or decreased 5 mph based on a speed limit safety study completed every five, seven, or 10 years.

Those receiving a speed limit increase include North Berkeley Avenue between Hawkeye Avenue and East Avenue (25 mph to 30 mph) and Olive Avenue between Canal Drive and Christoffersen Parkway (30 mph to 35 mph).

Speed limits on Countryside Drive between Fulkerth Road and Monte Vista Avenue will be decreased (40 mph to 35 mph), among others.

Council previously approved the amendment, and will only hold a final hearing on Tuesday. A complete list of potential changes can be found here.

Many are contract changes to specify costs for various projects including the Fulkerth Tank and Pump Station, in the decreased amount of $800 for a contract total of $3,529,200; there is a motion to accept improvements for the Station authorizing the City Engineer to file a Notice of Completion.

Offered on the agenda is a contract change for the Diane Drive Realignment project in the amount of $1,300 for a total cost of $840,947.40

Additionally, there is a motion to approve the City contract with Alta Planning + Design of Sacramento, California, to provide an additional six months for the completion of project specifications in the "Active Transportation Plan."

There is a motion to approve a change in contract in the amount of $3,060.54 for the
"Pedestrian Striping Upgrade Project, Various Locations," for a total of $56,118.0; there is also a motion to authorize the City Engineer to file a Notice of Completion for the project.

There is a motion to accept the proceedings for the Parcel Map 14-02 (Doo) Landscaping, Lighting, and Street Maintenance Benefit Assessment District, Subdivision Project.

There is a motion to change the contract amount for the Turlock Regional Water Quality Control Facility Headworks and Secondary Treatment Capacity Expansion - Phase 1, for $13,409 for a total of $23,255,863.58.

The project for improvements on the intersection at Monte Vista and Colorado, has a change in contract in the amount of $13,307.93 for a total of $545,638.53.

Furthermore, the agenda has a motion to support the renewal of the Stanislaus County Recycling Market Development Zone.

Additionally, there is a motion to accept Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund (SLESF) grant monies from the State of California Citizen’s Option for Public Safety (COPS) program projected to be a minimum of $100,000 in Fiscal Year 2014-14; and to appropriate Fiscal Year funds for 2014-15 revenues as they are received to supplement the funds matching requirement for the 2014 COPS Hiring Grant which will be used to hire four new officers.

The motion includes a movement to appropriate unused funds from Fiscal Year 2013-14 in the amount of $31,147 to be used as additional matching funds for the 2014 COPS grant.

Unspent funds from Fiscal Year 2013-14 in the amount of $12,839 are set to be appropriated for use in Fiscal Year 2014-15 to complete the installation of mobile radios in emergency service vehicles

The Council will also vote to approve the purchase of advanced authentication hardware and related services from SunGard Public Sector for $17,296 and authorize the City Manager to sign all documents to alter an existing agreement with SunGard Public Sector to include three years of maintenance.

The Turlock City Council will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Yosemite Room of City Hall, at 156 S. Broadway.

Why would you even consider an increase form 25 to 30 mph on Crowell RD between Monte Vista to West Tuolumne, school zones????

Why would you increase the speed limit on Berkeley between East Ave. and Hawkeye? There's a high school and a park right there. If the speed limit's 25, they're driving 30-35 already. Increase it to 30 and they'll drive 35-40. Too many kids...

No biggie. Cars on those streets already drive 50+. Now with the increase lets let them drive 60+. That's what happens when a councilnhires a city manager who manages a city they don't reside in.
