Turlock Mayor John Lazar presented San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick with the Key to the City of Turlock on Friday morning.

The presentation came during Lazar's eighth and final Turlock Mayor's Prayer Breakfast. Though Lazar is not seeking reelection, he said he will remain active in the community.

"It's not the last time you'll see me," Lazar said. "I was born and raised here. I love Turlock."

All five members of the Turlock City Council attended the breakfast, for what Lazar said was the first time he could remember.

"And it's not because of you, Colin, I'm sorry," Lazar said.

TurlockCityNews.com wrote an article discussing Kaepernick’s comments as he keynoted the address, available here.

But the event really isn’t about the high-profile celebrities who speak each year, said event emcee Dave Dravecky, a former San Francisco Giants pitcher.

"We dedicate this day, every year, to prayer," Dravecky said.

More than just the one day of prayer, guests were encouraged to interpret Friday’s event as a daily reminder to go and serve God.

Kaepernick and Dravecky weren't the only two stars at Tuesday's event.

Christian musician Phil King, a Turlock native, played a song off his new album, due out this fall. King's first album hit the top 25 on Christian charts.

Turlock Fire Chief Tim Lohman led a pledge to the flag, local businesswoman and Olympic medalist Ali Cox read from the Old Testament, and Hilmar High School Football coach Frank Marquis read from the New Testament. Prayers for family, youth, and leadership were led by Westside Ministries Director JoLynn DiGrazia, Pitman High School student Matt Garza, and Turlock Christian Junior High School Principal Chuck Boswell, respectively.
