Rare Site of Rain in Turlock During Drought

Although short lived for periods of time, the rain on Thursday was exciting for Turlockers. It has been an unfamiliar site this year for residents to walk outside and see wet streets and lawns. Many people posted to social media regarding the rain. Turlock Irrigation District’s Canal Drive weather station reported that the rain accumulated 0.07 inches of water by early afternoon.

Turlock Water Parks Are Now Closed

Summer has ended and it’s raining, now both of the City of Turlock’s water parks are closed. The Turlock Parks and Recreation Department posted on its Facebook page that Wednesday was the last day the water parks would be open. 
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Turlock is going pink! Turlockers along with businesses and organizations around the city are getting involved to support the movement. On Oct. 16, Emanuel Medical Cancer Center will be hosting its own event, Women’s Cancer Awareness Night Out. The night out will be headlined by Good Morning America’s Amy Robach, a breast cancer survivor herself.

Turlock Veteran Finds American Flag Burned

Loren Vincent, a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving from 1956 -1962, woke up Monday morning, went outside, and found a pile of ashes next to his flag pole where his American flag had once flown above. Vincent remembers the last time he saw the flag gracefully flying was on Sunday night around 7 p.m., after he returned home from evening church.

The Turlock Junior High School was put on lockdown for 20 minutes on Thursday. “Administration secured all students and staff in a lock down until a disruptive student had been apprehended,” stated Mike Trainor, Assistant Superintendent of Turlock Unified School District.
U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) announced a lottery for 10th Congressional District residents to receive tickets to see His Holiness Pope Francis of the Holy See following his Sept. 25, 2015, address to Congress. Pope Francis will make a brief public appearance following his at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. local, PT) address to Congress on the steps of the U.S. Capitol facing the West Lawn. Additionally, dependent on an on-time schedule, the Pope has expressed an interest in seeing the public on the West Front following his address.
