Students age 12 to 16 have a fun, free chance to learn how cells work, thanks to California State University, Stanislaus. “The Secret Lives of Cells” will be presented from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, in Room 229 of the CSU Stanislaus Naraghi Hall of Science. The free class is part of the “Science Saturday” program presented by The Pre-Health Society, American Chemistry Society Club, Biology Student Association and the CSU Stanislaus Science Faculty.

New Consignment Shop Looks to Help Nonprofits

A new consignment shop with a focus on giving back to the community has officially opened its doors. Just Cause Consignment held its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday at its 100 N. Palm Ave. location, between Main Street and Olive Avenue.
A vehicle collision involving a big rig traveling northbound on Highway 99 has caused a massive traffic jam, slowing the highway in both directions and backing-up Golden State Boulevard in Turlock.

Train Hits Car in Fatality Accident

Updated 10:25am - A car crossing railroad tracks on Olive Avenue, near Golden State Boulevard, was struck by a freight train Wednesday morning at about 8:30 a.m. A Turlock woman was driving a brown sedan when struck by the train. Details as to how the train came to strike the car have not been released.
Turlock's Brandon Koch Memorial Skate Park will move to Donnelly Park, following a unanimous vote of the Turlock City Council Tuesday evening. But the exact time frame for the move remains hazy, as city staff recently learned that the current skate park was funded, in part, by a State Parks and Recreation grant. As such, no move can occur without state permission.
Nic and Jessica Venturini and their two children, a two-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl, lost their home, belongings, and essentially everything they own in a July 31 fire on Elmwood Ave., near Graceadea Park in Modesto. Thanks to the power of the internet, Turlockers have banded together to help the Modesto family.
