Turlock Wrestling Club needs the help of supporters and the community in the next 9 days.

Turlock Wrestling is looking to the community to help them earn one of ten $2,500 grants from the Liberty Mutual Insurance Play Positive Pledge. The pledge is part of a program celebrating good sportsmanship in youth sports.

“Liberty Mutual is supporting local organizations like Turlock Wrestling Club to offset the costs of providing a valuable youth sports experience,” said Tim Williams, VP of Marketing for Liberty Mutual Insurance.

With the 2015-2016 wrestling season officially beginning in November, the grant money could not come at a more perfect time. If rewarded, Turlock City Wrestling Club would use the grant money to create a scholarship funds for athletes that are deserving as well as cover some of the more expensive costs that come along with the sport.

“Currently, our club, ages 5-13, has over 50 athletes who wrestle up to four months a year, and over 20 who wrestle at least ten months out of the year,” said Lucas Solarez, Turlock Wrestling Club Head Coach. “These elite wrestlers practice four to five days a week with tournaments almost every weekend and wrestling camps in the summer months. This grant money would come at a perfect time to help offset some costs for registration, gear and traveling expenses.”

Pledging for the grant is free and only takes a few minutes to do. With each pledge, 1 point is earned for Turlock Wrestling Club. Only one pledge is allowed per person and you must be at least eighteen years old.

The top five teams will earn one of ten grants.

The pledging period ends on Oct. 15 and Turlock Wrestling is currently in fourth place.

Members of the community can make the pledge at https://www.playpositive.com/pledge/takePledge/4869. You will then check your email to confirm the pledge.

When making the pledge, people of the community are pledging to promote youth good sportsmanship by honoring the rules of the game at all times, respecting officials, umpires and referees, showing respect to the other teams and coaches, and much more.
