The family and friends of Corey Borges, a Turlock father of four young children all 9 years old or younger, are asking the community of Turlock for help and prayers.

Corey was recently admitted into Critical Care at Emanuel Hospital in Turlock with a rare blood infection known as Amyloidosis. All of his major organs began failing and last week doctors discovered the infection poisoning his body. Currently he remains in Critical Care and is showing signs of improvement.

The rare disease takes months to treat and his family is hopeful his condition stabilizes so Corey can be transferred to Stanford Medical Hospital and receive on-going care.

Corey, who works for Central Valley Landscaping, recently married Sabrina Borges, a kindergarten teacher at Walnut Elementary School in Turlock, and the newlywed couple have two boys, Hudson and Brody who are both under two years old. They also help care for Corey’s two children from a previous marriage, Landen a third-grader and Allie, a first grader.

Family Friend Joe Silveira, who created a Throughtful.org page to help the Borges family, says that due to Corey’s extended hosptial stay the family will face financial hardships.

“The family faces financial hardships due the extreme costs of Corey's medical expenses and the simple fact he is out of work. Also, each day Sabrina takes off to be with her sick husband in the hospital is a day of unpaid leave as she is without accrued sick/personal days because of her recent maternity leaves. It is because of this we have started this page for them. Sabrina has no paid sick days accumulated at her school because of her two recent maternity leaves. She stays by Corey’s side at the hospital around the clock and every day she is away from work it a financial hit to her the family. Please help us in supporting this beautiful, young couple in their fight for Corey’s life,” he wrote on the page.
