Embattled Crowell Elementary Principal Being Replaced

Embattled Crowell Elementary Principal Being Replaced TurlockCityNews.com
Crowell Elementary School Principal Linda Alaniz announced Monday at a staff meeting that she will be leaving the school and Earl Elementary Assistant Principal Margaret Osmer will be named Interim Principal at Crowell.

The change will occur after the holiday break. The official decision from the Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees will be announced Tuesday night at the Trustees public meeting.

Alaniz will likely be moved to the Assistant Principal position at Turlock Adult School, pending final approval from the Board of Trustees.

Alaniz has come under seemingly constant fire in the last year, from her controversial handling of the now infamous stabbing incident involving a six-year-old victim who was stabbed in the neck with a pencil by a classmate, to the public outcry from teachers about the work environment at the school in which they proclaimed, “We work in hell and the devil is our boss,” to an alleged cover-up of a sexual assault involving a third-grade autistic boy, as well as numerous grievances filed by teachers with the Turlock Teachers Association and run-ins with parents, staff and teachers.

Two sources who work at Crowell, one of which attended the staff meeting but did not want to be named, commented on the announcement, saying “the reign of terror is over,” and “as ridiculous as it is, I cried because I was so happy.”

“At the conclusion of the winter break I will not be returning,” the source said Alaniz told her staff. “The timing is not good — I understand that. I hate to leave in the middle of the school year. But in this very difficult decision I found who was coming (to Crowell) and I am very comfortable with the decision.”

Turlock Teachers Association President Julie Shipman, who brought many of the problems at Crowell involving Alaniz to light, commented on the change.

“I am happy to see that a change has finally been made,” said Shipman. “It’s what is best for Crowell School, for the students and staff. Margaret Osmer, the interim principal, is an experienced leader, a former Marine, a top-notch educator and a caring individual. TTA wants what is best for the school, and quality leadership with a fresh start is exactly what is needed.”

i for one am very sorry to see Ms Alaniz leave Crowell school. In my opinion she was an excellent administrator. She always was available and helped as necessary whenever I had a concern as a neighbor or as a grandparent of a child attending the school. I will miss her smile every morning as she assisted the kids at the driveway to the parking lot. This school has become so much larger in the past ten years, I believe that whoever takes this position has their work cut out for them as it is a bigger job than you may realize.

Transferring her doesn't help for nothing...getting rid of the cancer solves the problem once and for all just don't understand why school district would go through all this trouble to keep smh

In what other circumstance besides public sector work or government employment, would a principal with this much reason to be fired and blacklisted get to keep employment? Is it really fair to the adult school students and staff to have to deal with this corrupt person now? Why are they trying so hard to save her a$$? Perhaps she's got some good dirt on someone who has the power to save her.

As is typical for TUSD: Take a bad apple and move them into the District Office, with a new title and a raise.

Glad teacher tenure has been ruled unconstitutional. That's what these cry baby Crowell teachers hide behind. It's teachers like you that give ALL teachers a bad rap. Ms "patty"

First of all, Linda never smiled unless it was that Disney bad guy smile, so the first commenter is lying. Linda was an angry, vindictive, selfish, power hungry, racist, unintelligent principal. She made many people's lives miserable and enjoyed doing it. It doesn't matter that she will have an easier job, get paid probably more, and have more power.... as long as she is away from children now.

SMH- Wow! Racist??? Really??? You heard all of this so of course it must be true...right????
The problem here is that so many of you come on this web site to post a bunch of made up accusations that you "heard" about through your friend, who heard it from her cousin , who has a friend that knows somebody that works as a crossing guard at a school in Texas who has a kid that goes to Crowell.

The problem is that instead of making these accusations, get involved SMH! The problem is you... SMH! I bet you drop your kid off at school and pick them up after school and have NO other involvement in your child's life in school. You expect teachers to raise your child for you! You expect the world to give you everything for free! The problem is you! Stop complaining and making false accusations about people who you don't even know and make your child's life better by being involved. How often do you volunteer in your child's classroom? How often do you help the school by volunteering for carnivals, fundraisers, PTA or anything else your school might need? My guess is never!
SMH if you have these concerns than you should confront the issue with the principal face to face. If you are not willing to handle this issue face to face than your concern is probably not valid and you are just here to spread lies!
Best of luck to Ms. Osmer! We are lucky to have you at our school! You have parents here who support you! I have heard nothing but great things about you from parents who have known you! I look forward to being a part of making our school great! The past is the past! The future is now!

The facts are the facts and the board and district had heard enough evidence to forcefully remove Alaniz from here position. All you people posting here will never know all the evidence but the right people had enough to remove her. If Alaniz was not the problem and the teachers were the problem, then we could determine that problems would continue, right? Lets see if we have anymore problems at Crowell now. Here's to wishing Alaniz becomes your boss because we all know that people in power never abuse that power now do they, not the president, not the cops, no one ever.

Good. Hope Margaret gives all you cry babies what you have coming. It's not discrimination being told to do your job

I also have heard that Margaret reported for discrimination. Nothing was done. Not by her boss or the principal at the school it was reported at. At Walnut the teachers called her "the crazy coach" because that's what she was. But now she's principal. Maybe she has pictures of Sonny too. hmmmmmmm

SMH, you have no idea how completely wrong you are.

Margaret osmer is worse than Linda. She is the racist one. I really feel sorry for the parents now. Margaret keeps getting promoted even though she flat out discriminates. TUSD is afraid to rock boats and this means they have unprofessional administrators. SMH
