Turlock's Pitman High School graduate and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick elicited a major media response when he was seen sitting down during the national anthem at preseason game. Kaepernick has since acknowledged his reasoning for the protest as being directed toward oppression experienced by people of color from police officers and others. The following coverage will contain some spoilers of the episode.
The third year of Dancing With the Turlock Stars community fundraiser has sold out, again. However, the entertaining dance fundraising event is now being live video streamed and online voting will continue throughout the event! Members of the community are set to compete alongside seasoned dancers in order to benefit local charities and organizations, Covenant Care Hospice, Jessica's House, and the Turlock Salvation Army.
More than 70 community members will come together on Sept. 17 to put on the largest community yard sale in Turlock. The goal of the event is to provide an opportunity for community members to have a yard sale and allow nonprofit organizations in Turlock a chance to engage with the community.
Turlock resident and Combat Infantry Veteran, Cory Smith, is hosting his 5th Annual Red, White, and Blue Run. The first year that Smith started this run, it was just himself and a fellow marine vet. Last year, nearly 500 people participated in the run, and the donations have doubled in amount each year.
You bet the Turf Club will have horse racing at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, for now. Stanislaus County Fair officials announced that the Turf Club will be rented to Northern California Off Track, Inc. to run the satellite horse racing facility in Turlock.

The Turlock Library has a variety of free programs for all ages planned for the month of August. On Aug. 9, anyone is welcome to created Upcycled Pencil Cases at 4 p.m. VCR cases among other materials will be used by crafters to make pencil cases. Children under 4 years of age will need direct parental supervision to participate.
