In many ways a bike is a fun rite of passage to journey into a world beyond someone’s front lawn. Sadly in today’s tough economy, some kids in Turlock do not have bikes and their loved ones cannot afford to buy them one.

Fortunately, Bell Real Estate (BRE) Cycle Team and Frost Bakery have a delicious way to help those kids out.

Things don’t really get much easier than eating cupcakes so less fortunate children can get new bicycles for Christmas — and that is exactly what the Bell Real Estate Cycling Team and Frost Bakery are asking the giving people of Turlock to do for the second annual “Eat Cupcakes, Kids Get Bikes” charity drive.

Now through Nov. 12 you can purchase delicious cupcakes from Frost for $28 per dozen or $15 per half-dozen and the proceeds will help BRE Cycling purchase bikes and give them to children through the Turlock Salvation Army. Bikes will be given to children ages toddler (tricycles) to sixth graders (12-inch, 16-inch bikes).

“We are a Turlock racing team and we race all over California and Nevada and we receive a lot of support from Turlock,” said Robert Bell, owner of Bell Real Estate and BRE Cycling Director. “This is a way to give back to the community and give less fortunate kids a bike to ride to school or around the neighborhood for fun and exercise. Maybe someday one of those kids will grow up to ride with us.”

“Eat Cupcakes, Kids Get Bikes” has already matched last year’s total, with enough money to buy 23 bikes, and they hope to hit 50 this year.

You can purchase cupcakes with a card online by clicking here. If you don’t eat cupcakes you can also donate directly.

Also, if you don’t want to buy cupcakes online, you can order in person at both Turlock and Modesto Frost locations, at 2014 Monte Vista Ave. in Turlock and 901 N. Carpenter Rd. in Modesto; Cycle Works of Turlock at 605 E. Main St.; and lastly Oakdale Bike Shop, 445 E. F St. in Oakdale.

“Cupcakes are nice, inexpensive way to have a party in your workplace, while boosting morale for a good cause,” said Bell.

Cupcake orders will be available on Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at both Turlock and Modesto Frost locations — if you are ordering online there will be a pick up location selection option.
