A multi-agency sweep throughout Stanislaus County on Tuesday targeted gang members on parole or probation who are out of compliance and yielded 12 arrests.

According to the Modesto Police Department, members of the the Modesto Police Department Street Gang Unit, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, Ceres Police Department, Stanislaus County Probation, California Department of Corrections (Parole) and Central Valley Gang Impact Task Force conducted parole or probation compliance checks on document gang members.

A total of 12 arrests were made during the sweeps, including four felony arrests. Charges for the arrests include drug possession, identity theft, burglary, and warrants, said the Modesto Police Department.

Tuesday’s sweep took law enforcement agents across Stanislaus County, including Turlock, Modesto, and Ceres. In all, 27 probation searches were conducted at 22 separate locations, according to the Modesto Police Department.

Agents allegedly swept a property on the 900 block of South Avenue in Turlock, but it is unknown if any arrests were made at this location.

“It’s important to conduct these searches to ensure gang members are in compliance with the terms of their probation,” Sgt. Brandon Gillespie of the Modesto Police Department Street Gang Unit said. “We hope being proactive will prevent future crimes from occurring.”

The Modesto Police Department said the purpose of the gang sweeps is to take a “professional and unified stance” against gang violence in Stanislaus County. Proactive enforcement and high visibility allows law enforcement to send criminals a message that gang violence and activity will not be tolerated.

The names of those arrested are not being released at this time.
