McCorkell is an experienced journalist with a strong dedication to community news.

He began his journalism career in 2005 with the U.S. Navy, graduating from the Department of Defense Information School in Fort Meade, Maryland. He served three additional years as a Navy Journalist Petty Officer 3rd Class at Navy Region Southwest in San Diego.

Following his enlistment he has worked at several newspapers and covered a variety of beats including education, city government, sports, agriculture and human interest.

McCorkell graduated magna cum laude from Fresno Pacific University and holds his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts.

McCorkell and his wife Elizabeth were both raised in the Sacramento area. They have three children: Caitlyn, 8, and twins Grace and Nolan, both 7.

Looking for mudtastically fun time? The 2nd Annual Muddy Balls Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 31, at the Stanislaus County Fairground’s Food Maxx Arena. Imagine a football field filled with more than a dozen beach volleyball courts – only instead of a warm, sandy beach, there is a massive swamp of wet mud. And rather than graceful games of volleyball, this sloppy game is played in creative uniforms.
The California Department of Education reports that 53 percent of all suspensions fall under a “vague” loophole in state education code, known as “willful defiance” of school authorities. There are currently nearly two-dozen designated reasons why a student can be suspended in state education code.

Turlock High Tight End One of Nation's Best

Turlock High School senior tight end Patrick Green (6-4, 233) has been named to high school sport network MaxPreps’ list of “Sac-Joaquin Section Football Players to Watch for 2013.” Green is the only player south of Elk Grove included on the list of 20 players, all from the classes of 2014 and 2015.
The social media effort to combat crime and criminal activity was given another tool recently with a launch of a new app for iPhone and Android smartphone users from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.
Turlock Youth Performing Arts’ Senior Company will present “Legally Blonde the Musical” from Aug. 9-11 at the Turlock Community Theatre.
Some say the spirit of the West is dying, but don’t tell that to these straight-shootin' old buckaroos. The California Range Riders Mounted Shooters Club, members of the national Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, are looking to rope in spectators for a rootin'-tootin' time at a free shooting competition August 24 and 25 at Hoffman’s Arena in Turlock. Competition will start at 10 a.m. both days, with the cowboys planning a BBQ chicken dinner following the completion of the competition Saturday evening.
The Turlock Community Theatre's 2013 schedule of award-winning musicians and comedians kicks off in just two weeks. The season begins with American alternative country and folk rock singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, who will perform at the Turlock Community Theatre with special guest Ivan & Alyosha at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16. Tickets are currently on sale, with prices ranging from $34 to $49.
A free, public, special presentation on A-fib, or atrial fibrillation, by Emanuel Medical Center and Dr. Fariba Amani, a cardiac electrophysiologist, will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 10 in the hospital’s Conference Room C.
