Around Turlock - May 22

Next time you drive down Canal Drive, keep an eye out for this sign in the median near Geer Road.

The sign was placed in honor of the Earth-conscious, recycled rubber mulch used in the median.

As the sign notes, 48,125 tires were recycled to create the rubber mulch which now fills the median. Those tires would otherwise be sitting in California landfills.

The rubberized mulch was funded, in large part, by a grant from the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery.

What does one do when the rubber mulch planters fill up with dirt and leaves over the next few years?
